STATEMENT FROM GINA ARENA, CANDIDATE FOR STATE SENATE

On the passage of the Clean Slate bill

“In unfortunate – yet typical – Albany fashion, the State Senate passed the ‘Clean Slate’ bill, which would hide the records of those convicted on manslaughter, armed robbery, most kidnappings, hate crimes, some terrorism offenses, domestic violence, animal abuse, and arson – to name a few. And my opponent, Pete Harckham, voted ‘YES’ on this pro-criminal piece of legislation.

I believe in rehabilitation. I believe in second chances. But this bill goes way too far in hiding the truth from employers and housing providers, and does not represent the values of our communities.

Hudson Valley residents deserve a thorough explanation from Pete Harckham of why he thinks it is a good idea to seal millions of criminal records as crime is skyrocketing. We deserve answers right now.”
